This was my last project as a sophomore and it is the project in which I learned the most about myself. We read the book, Into the Wild which is the story of Christopher McCandless' death. A few days after he graduates from University he gave up his life in order to go on the adventure that would end his life. He wanted to live in Alaska and he follow him through his journey until he gets there and spends the last days of his life in the wilderness.
Purpose
As we read we explored different philosophies and the external influences that drive our decisions. Christopher McCandless decided he did not want to be controlled my society which is why he broke out of the pattern most Americans live. We also discussed multiple times if we thought Chris was being brave for creating this adventure, or if we thought it was inappropriate for not preparing himself to do so. We each also created our own philosophies and presented them when we went into the wild in order to reflect about what we wanted to do in life and what we are going to do in order to accomplish it.
