The science festival was a lot of fun. It was really fun to teach students about static electricity this is an image of my partner Fernanda and I explaining the instructions of the activity the second graders were about to do; called static bell.
This was another great part of the fair. The elementary students really enjoyed blowing up their balloon and learning how to tie it.This is all of us rubbing two insulators, the balloon and on hair to create static electricity.
This is a picture of me explaining to the kids what an atom is made of and how atoms make up everything. This was really fun because they had a really unforgettable reaction of how everything around them is made out atoms.
Another positive moment was when the second graders asked us questions. It was really great how they were so interested in our activities that they kept on asking questions to learn more. This is a picture of one of the kids asking us a question while they all write down stuff on their notebook we gave them.
Reflection
Something I would do differently would have been to find different activities that were easier for the second graders to do. The hands on activity we did was called Static bell. This activity was hard for the kids because they had to tie a piece of thread onto a plastic spoon this was really hard for them and we had to end up doing it for them. They also kept on nocking down the cans with the balloons. Another thing I would change would be the way we explained what an atom is made of and what an insulator and conductor are. Some of the words we used were very hard for them to understand and they were confused multiple times.
